How to Recover a Lost Ledger Wallet
Your Ledger is just an interface. The real wallet is your 24-word recovery phrase.
When Recovery Is Needed
Lost device, stolen device (PIN protects it), damaged device, or upgrading to a new model.
Step-by-Step
- Get a new Ledger from official sources only. Never use secondhand devices
- Choose "Restore from recovery phrase" during setup
- Enter your 24 words in order on the device
- Install apps (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.) via Ledger Live
- Verify balances match your previous device
Emergency: Software Wallet Recovery
If no Ledger available, restore in Electrum (Bitcoin) or MetaMask (Ethereum) on a clean machine. Move funds to a new Ledger immediately—software wallets are less secure.
