How to Use Ledger Live: Complete Walkthrough
Ledger Live is your command center for managing crypto with a Ledger hardware wallet.
Installation and Setup
Download from ledger.com for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, or Android. Connect your Ledger via USB (or Bluetooth on Nano X/Gen5/Flex). The app will check your device is genuine and update firmware if needed.
Installing Blockchain Apps
Each cryptocurrency needs its own app on the Ledger. Go to "My Ledger" tab, search for the coin (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, etc.), and click Install. Each app uses a small amount of device storage.
Adding Accounts
After installing an app, go to Accounts → Add Account. Select the crypto, follow prompts. Ledger Live derives addresses from your seed. You can create multiple accounts per coin for organization.
Sending and Receiving
- Receive: Click Receive, select account, verify address on device screen, share address
- Send: Click Send, enter recipient address and amount, verify on device, confirm
Always verify the full address on your Ledger screen—never trust only the computer display.
Portfolio View
The dashboard shows total portfolio value, allocation breakdown, and price charts. Individual account pages show transaction history and balance over time.
Staking
Select an account that supports staking (ETH, SOL, DOT, etc.). Click "Earn" and follow prompts. Rewards are displayed in the account view. Staking through Ledger Live keeps your keys secure.
Swapping
Ledger Live integrates swap providers (Changelly, 1inch, Paraswap). Select source and destination tokens, review rates and fees, confirm on device. Your keys never leave the Ledger.
